Well?

See that brick box in the back left of the photo? That little shelter houses a fresh water well dug at Baraka Orphanage in Kosele, Kenya. The well is now serving a community of 10,000 Kenyans!

Little by little, Baraka Orphanage is on the grow. Dozens of kids are waiting for the doors to officially open at the new facility (see our blog entry from August 28, 2012 for more info). Many people are wondering…how long will it be? A report just today suggests that hopefully sometime in 2013 Baraka Orphanage will be well under way serving children from all over the area. Until that time, Baraka Gemstones and Jewelry, Create A Ring™ and others are working to team up with Baraka Orphanage to help purchase their much needed beds and furnishings for the main building, as well as build a small manager’s home and kitchen on site. Once these things are completed, more efforts can be put into purchasing additional land that will allow for self-sustaining agricultural and farm animal development. When the basics are in place, funding will be put towards the growth of nationally based self-sustainable structures tied in with Baraka Orphanage. Raising farm animals for food and sale in local markets, textile production and sale, the retail sale of creative artwork from the orphanage community and more! Everyone involved with Baraka Orphanage believes any future for the organization, and the children it represents, needs to be rooted in self-sustainability. We look forward to how this develops, and how Baraka Gemstones and Jewelry can be involved.

We look forward to how things develop for Baraka Orphanage and Baraka Gemstones and Jewelry as we enter the new year. Until then, we’d like to wish a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all our patrons and supporters! Thank you for what you do to help us help you help kids. We will have more stories to tell in 2013. Stay tuned! The Baraka Gemstones and Jewelry Team
